The day of the EU vote has arrived and the country feels as though on a precipice, thrown off balance by unsettled weather and uneasy anticipation. But in the TCC office today, a gleam of light broke through as news spread of our Group CEO, Joanne Smith’s, award winning triumph at the First Women Awards the night before!
Joanne beat other senior trailblazing women from companies such as Accenture and MediaCom to the prize, which recognises her success in breaking through the ‘glass-ceiling’ by setting up and running two successful fast-track growth businesses in the typically male-dominated sectors of financial compliance and FinTech.
Joanne Smith said:
Having been pipped-to-the-post last year, I was elated this year to have reached the final. To then go onto winning feels absolutely fantastic. I’m a huge champion of women and I make it my business to ensure all women within my companies feel empowered to reach their ambitions and goals, no matter how high they may be.
The First Women Awards, hosted by Real Business and supported by the CBI, are in their 12th year. They unearth trailblazing women whose achievement and individual actions have helped and are helping to remove barriers. The awards recognise pioneering UK women who have opened up opportunities for others.
Previous winners at the First Women Awards have included the entrepreneurial duo behind notonthehighstreet.com and Thea Green of Nails Inc. The awards have also brought together female luminaries such as Juliet Davenport of Good Energy, author Annabel Karmel, former Dragons’ Den investor Hilary Devey and MITIE Group CEO Ruby McGregor-Smith.
